Burn off the post Xmas flab

Try these outdoor exercise ideas for burning off the last of those Cadbury’s Roses…

A mince pie served with double cream comes to a hefty 368 calories. Ouch. Luckily there’s a whole range of ways to burn that off which are, in my humble opinion, far more satisfying and enjoyable than slogging away on the treadmill. Training outdoors can actually burn up to 20 percent more calories, and the extra sunlight provides essential vitamin D for bone strength and protection against SAD, as well keeping the tan topped up! A half hour of any of the following activities would work off around 250 cals:

-Swimming

-Running

-Cycling

-Chopping wood and tree climbing

-Horse riding

These gentler pursuits will still get you moving, and work off about 150 cals in 30 mins:

-Fishing

-Clearing scrub, weeding and planting

-Gentle walking

Time spent looking at rural scenes also lowers our blood pressure, so whatever activity you choose to do, it should hopefully leave you feeling a bit less stressed, as well as healthier and happier. Let us know how you’re getting on with your fresh air fitness regimes!
