Our guest blogger from Ellis Brigham, Richard Garland, is back with more top ideas for active days out from the capital. This week, it’s a bit of surf, then turf…
3. Sea kayaking in Brighton, Sussex
If the thought of leaving a city environment altogether doesn’t appeal but you still want to free your mind from the stress of London life then a trip to Brighton always helps blow away the cobwebs. Take the day a little further and head out on a kayak for a bit of ocean bound adventure.
From the most experienced kayaker to a complete novice there’ll be something to suit all abilities, from heading out on your own to guided and taught 3 hour sessions with approved water sports centres. You’ll get to do a bit of premier sea bird spotting as they swoop overhead and alongside, maybe catch some fresh fish to grill up back on the beach and ride a view waves or chill out and see Brighton from a whole new angle. Finish off with a walk along the beach, or round the Lanes and head back to London on the train.
4. Mountain biking and Dick Turpin’s hide out in Epping Forest, Greater London/Essex
Just hop on the Central Line and head out to Zone 6 where Epping Forest straddles the Greater London and Essex border. You can easily spend a whole day in this ancient woodland walking, mountain biking, picnicking, mushroom picking or pretending to be Dick Turpin! The mountain bike tracks can be pretty muddy but are loads of fun. For a beautiful picnic spot head over to High Beach with its thatched cottages and places of historical interest… apparently Dick Turpin, the legendary highwayman, hid out in a cave just off Wellington Hill at High Beach.
Next week… watersports and woodland adventures.
