Are you up for a great swim?

Are you up for a great swim?

Think you can do a few lengths in the pool no problem? Well how about a mile, in open water, alongside 1000 other swimmers? If you fancy your chances, then the British Gas Great Swim Series is the event with your name on it.

Started in 2008, the British Gas Great Swim Series has grown to become the largest open water swimming event in the UK and over 20,000 people took part in 2010. The series of events attracts people from all walks of life from athletes, Olympic medallists and high profile celebrities, to OAPs and people with inspirational stories – some of whom are struggling with disabilities and illnesses – of all ages, swimming abilities and backgrounds.

There are five Great Swims that you can take part in this year, across the country:

Great Salford Swim – Salford Quays 15 May 2011

Great East Swim – Suffolk 11 June 2011

Great North Swim – Independent Place – Windermere 18 and 19 June 2011

Great London Swim – Royal Victoria Dock 2 July 2011

Great Scottish Swim – Strathclyde (Date TBC)

They vary in length and you can take them at your own pace, whether it’s swimming a mile chatting to a friend or crawling your way to a fast time!
