Getting wet and wild could become your part of your 9 to 5 if you train as a raft guide
Cardiff White Water Centre is home to the National Raft Guide School, and we spoke to Assistant Manager Ben Longhurst about what to expect from their Rapid Trainee scheme.
“You don’t necessarily need to have lots of previous watersports experience. Just be interested in learning, be confident in water and attend one of our courses. Then you will have to get in plenty of practice prior to assessment!
The course is 3 days long and will be physically demanding. You can achieve 5 levels of qualifications as a raft guide; level 1 which is a site specific qualification, and there are a range of other canoe and kayaking qualifications available. You can also combine raft guide training with Rescue 3 Swift Water Training.
Our instructors have qualified to BCU standard and have vast amounts of experience gained all over the world, from Europe to Africa to New Zealand. Once you qualify, you can use your own qualification in the UK and for British companies in Europe.
