Round the world cyclist Mark Beaumont is gearing up to appear at Scotland’s first national conference on mountain biking.
He’ll will be speaking about his round the World cycle and also cycling the Americas. He will talk about how his initial experiences of cycling in Scotland inspired him to take on the world challenge.
The sport has seen a massive rise in popularity in recent years, and has led to the creation of a national strategic framework and a project, Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland.
Lesley McKenna, Scotland’s best known snowboarder, who has represented Britain at the Olympics three times and is also a keen mountain biker, will also be speaking at the conference about encouraging women to take part in mountain biking and the power of alternative sports to achieve this.
Developing Mountain Biking in Scotland’s, project manager Graeme McLean, explains what progress has been made so far and the future priorities for the project. “We want to inform, inspire and energise councils, businesses, community groups, public bodies, charities and the mountain biking community to developing mountain biking in Scotland in a sustainable way. We want this popular activity to reach its full potential for a range of reasons, including health and well being, tourism and improving the Scottish economy and sporting development and success.”
