Brighton’s Paddle Round The Pier Beach festival returns on the 3rd and 4th July 2010 and is Europe’s biggest free beach and watersports festival.
The festival was established in 1996 and now sees around 40,000 visitors descend each year to hang out on the beach and take part in the events and demos on offer.
Their famous title event is open to anyone with something to paddle on, be it a surfboard, canoe or even a lilo! There’s also the ‘Paddle Something Unusual’ event, the Errant Pier to Pier race and the gruelling 20 mile ‘Funky Puffin SUP Euro Enduro’ race.
There’s plenty happening on dry land too, including skating, free running, Streetball, mountain boarding and freestyle mountain biking demos‚ and a beach buggy display on the beach both days. The featured music acts playing on Hove Lawns include Elvis and Led Zeppelin tributes performing alongside various Brighton-based acts.
The “Paddle” is known for its relaxed atmosphere and friendly vibe, and has a free entrance policy, though any donations on the gates go to charity and the event has raised over £80,000 over the last few years.
Team FAF will be down there, and we hear that one or two of you might be taking part too, be sure to give us a shout if you are and we’ll get some great pics for the facebook page! www.paddleround thepier.com
