Paddling specialists, Palm Equipment are marking their 30th anniversary with The Big Paddle on 15th and 16th of May, a celebration on the gorgeous River Wye which is open to all levels of paddlers.

“Over the past thirty years we have helped families and friends, young and old onto the water, as well as supporting those at the leading edge of the sport.” explains Palm’s founder Andy Knight. “It is really important to us that everyone gets to go for a paddle. No matter what paddlesport means to you, whether its fishing, bird watching, slalom, whitewater, stand-up-paddleboarding, or a new challenge altogether, this event has something to offer”.

Over the weekend Palm will be providing shuttles to several stretches of river, as well as a variety of guided paddle trips, multi sport challenges, free ‘have a go’ and demo boat trials, and coaching sessions from some of the best in the business. There will also limited spots available on nature tours run by Carolyn Robertson, Learning Manager at the London wetlands centre and Dave Paynter, reserve manager at Slimbridge wetlands centre. Bteween them they have an encyclopedic knowledge of all things bird and wildlife related, and hope to point out otter markings, a wide variety of birdlife and even find underwater lampreys and crayfish.

Tickets to The Big Paddle (£5– All proceeds towards the restoration of Symonds Yat Rapids) are available on-line or via telephone, and you’ll be able to book your camping pitch and places at any masterclasses at the same time. All proceeds will be invested directly back into the paddlesport community, with Palm making an extra donation to the rivers access cause for every paddler who attends.
